What’s HOT This Winter? . . . Iceland! Plus Other Club News |
Hello Ladies,
Of all the many benefits available to our club members, there is none more emotionally satisfying than the fast friendships that develop on our tours . . . and then continue long after the trip is over. Elaine and Beth met on our Amalfi Coast tour last year in June. They were eager to stay in touch and to travel together, except that Beth lives in Virginia and Elaine lives in . . . Australia. No worries, mate! (thanks to email, cell phones and Facebook). They looked over all our tour offerings for this summer and selected our recent Ireland tour as the perfect spot for their reunion. And what a blast they had together, as you can see in their picture. (You will hear more about our Ireland tour in our next newsletter). As Beth wrote recently:
“I was very fortunate to meet Elaine and consider her a dear friend and one I will treasure for life. I hope she and I can continue to travel together with The Women’s Travel Club for many years to come.”
Speaking of reunions, members from our February Women of the World (WOW) tour to Morocco got together over a weekend in May in New York City. The girls came from all points, including upstate New York, Washington, DC, and New York City. At the last minute, some of the Texas contingent had to send regrets, but they gathered for dinner back home in Austin and held their own mini-reunion! When you consider that we started off in Casablanca as a group of 18, of whom only 6 were acquainted (from our 2008 Egypt WOW tour), it’s a testament to the bonding that occurs in the company of other women who share your love of travel. Here, we are pictured on Friday night at our Indian-themed dinner, the location selected to kick-off our next WOW tour to the Kerala Spice Coast. On Saturday, some ladies caught a Broadway matinee; others went shopping, sightseeing, and to museums. Dinner that evening was held in a Moroccan restaurant where everyone shared photos, lots of laughter, and vivid memories of a very good time. (The club returns to Morocco next February so look for details coming soon).
I just love these stories. This is what The Women’s Travel Club is all about. And if this sounds like fun to you, check out our “Pink Column” list of upcoming tours and . . . Join us!
Wishing you all a wonderful rest of the summer, and safe travels always.
Warm regards,
Allison O’Sullivan
Managing Director

Author Susan Van Allen on our Florence Tour |
Where should I go with my girlfriends? This was a recent post on the travel forum of the website, Divine Caroline.com, and here is how Susan responded:
My answer is always: Italy! There is an awesome tour to Florence happening in September sponsored by The Women's Travel Club. It's women only, focusing on the beauties of Florence, shopping, eating splendidly, and a day trip to Siena and San Gimignano. Looks very tempting--including the luxurious Hotel Baglioni!
Thank you Susan! An Italy travel writer based in Los Angeles, Susan Van Allen is an award-winning author. Her monthly column “Letters from Italy” has an impressive following on Divine Caroline. This fall will see the publication of her long-awaited book, 100 Places in Italy Every Woman Should Go. Check out the WTC tour that has Susan so impressed. We still have a few spots left.

Iceland is HOT!!! |
Looking for a unique and memorable way to celebrate New Year's Eve? Come with us to Reykjavik for one of the friendliest – and certainly one of the hottest – holiday festivities you may ever experience. The lure of the world’s northernmost capital draws thousands each year to Reykjavik, making it one of the hottest travel trends this year. And the time-honored Icelandic way of celebrating this happy holiday makes it hot in more ways than one . . . merrymaking around enormous bonfires, spectacular fireworks, and a traditional thermal soaking in the Blue Lagoon on the day after. How hot is that! And when not partying, you’ll have miles of glaciers, steaming geysers, majestic waterfalls, active volcanoes, and of course, the stunning Northern Lights . . . all awaiting your visit to the land of fire and ice. Egypt with Nile Cruise – March 2009
“It was a great trip!” Carol C, Bellevue, WA
“I am composing this email on my return flight from Cairo to New York. The nine days I spent in Egypt with the Woman's Travel Group were thrilling, exhausting and totally satisfying. This trip had been my dream for a lifetime. Egypt is amazing with its history, monuments and its people. That brings me to the subject of our peerless guide. From the moment he gathered us at the airport, he was calming and approachable and he kept everything moving smoothly. We were a diverse group and somehow, he managed all of us with warmth and sureness and humor. He was knowledgeable about everything we saw and everything we could think of to ask. He was fully authentic and skilled at explaining differences in culture, religion and politics--along with a deep understanding of history, art and architecture. I have many friends who are waiting to hear about my experience before they plan their trips to Egypt.”
Fredda G, New York City
2010 departures are January 23 and October 9: Egypt Deluxe
Ixtapan Spa, Mexico – March 2009
Thankfully, the Mexico travel alert has been lifted! Our spa getaway is always a draw and this past March was no exception. Spa dates are available year-round, just call us!
“Thank you for the Women’s Travel Club! I loved my week of pampering and relaxation. Like every other woman in the world (lol), I deal with loads of stress on a daily basis, mostly work-related. So this vacation is just the antidote to our fast-paced lives. Because I’m traveling alone, I’m really looking forward to doing what I want, when I want, without having to check in with a hundred other people! For me, I thought that this would also be a perfect opportunity to get back in touch with who I am and what I want out of life. Plus, who couldn’t use some time in the sun right about now? Sitting by the pool with a good book and a glass of wine . . . heaven!”
Rosemary D, West New York, NJ

Tuscan Table – May 2009
This group had such a great time (many new friendships!), that they’ve asked the club to design the same tour for Provence next year. Look for our Flavors of Provence tour to be scheduled for May 1-8. Details coming soon.
“I must say that I enjoyed this trip immensely. Everyone affiliated with it was special, and really went out of their way to show us an impeccable time. It was top shelf all the way – they didn't skimp on anything! The staff was so friendly and warm, including the staff at the hotel, the staff at the Villa, and the tour guide, Lynn. Whoever dreamed up the itinerary made sure that EVERYTHIING we needed to know about Tuscany was included...Can't wait for the next trip!!” Lois K., Brooklyn, NY
“I've had a lot of traveling experiences and this trip was an experience. The trip was superbly planned.” Midge M, New York City
“I had a great trip, loved the cooking classes with Gianfranco, laughed a lot, made new friends, had new experiences and came back with memories for a lifetime. I will surely travel again with the Women's Club.” Aida Liliana H., Aventura. FL
Back by popular demand, our 2010 cooking tours will again include Tuscan Table in mid-March and Thanksgiving in Tuscany in late November. |
