Day 1 –
Depart the U.S. for China.

Day 2 – Beijing: Arrive in Beijing, located in the north and the capital city of China. Beijing is China’s sprawling cultural and political center, as well as a central base to many fascinating sites. Few other Chinese cities offer such a concentrated view of ancient and modern China. Your guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Relax and enjoy the rest of your evening at leisure.

Day 3 – Beijing:  No visit would be complete without an excursion to see the Great Wall, truly one of the greatest feats of human engineering, stretching nearly 4,000 miles long. Begun in the 7th century B.C., final additions were completed in 16th century A.D. and originally built to keep out invaders of the north. You’ll also see “Mingshisan Ling” or Ming Tombs, a final resting place for thirteen Emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). Built into Beijing’s scenic foothills, splendidly carved stone animals dramatically line the road on your approach.

Day 4 – Beijing: Today your guide will take you on a full-day tour of Beijing. Tour the incomparable Forbidden City, home to two dynasties spanning 500 years. This architecturally stunning 200-acre compound, with more than 800 buildings and 9,000 rooms, houses a vast collection of imperial treasures and cultural artifacts. Visit the Summer Palace, home to China’s largest imperial garden. You’ll also visit Tian’anmen Square, the world’s largest public square, and site of Mao Zedong’s Mausoleum and the Great Hall of the People.

Day 5 – Beijing/Shanghai: Fly to Shanghai, China’s largest city and former “Paris of the East.” Your guide will transfer you to your hotel.

Day 6 – Shanghai: After breakfast, enjoy a full day guided tour, which includes visits to beautiful Yu Garden with its many halls and pavilions and the Old City, and then drive through the Xintiandi Area. In the afternoon visit the Shanghai Museum. You may want to return there in the evening to enjoy the restaurants and nightlife.

Day 7 Hangzhou Full day excursion by high speed train to the city of Hangzhou. Includes the Six Harmony Pagoda, and a visit to the former mansion of Hu Xueyan, one of the richest men of his time and founder of the famous Chinese Herbal Medicine Company. Also visit a tea farm, one of Hangzhou's famous local products, and enjoy a short cruise on the scenic West Lake. Return to Shanghai by high speed train and transfer to your hotel.

"I recently returned from my Highlights of China trip & I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it. It was wonderful. Our Chinese guide, Oscar, was fantastic. There was never a problem he could not solve & with 16 women there were some problems. In fact he also saw problems before they happened & gave us the info we needed to avoid them. Before each activity he had the info we needed to understand what we were going to see. He was very organized in regard to; hotels, air flights, motor transportation, food, ATMs, & in never lossing anyone. " Susan, China Highlights, November 2010
